MYDATA enables context- and situation-related restrictions, for example:

  • Data may only be used on working days between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • Data may only be retrieved three times within a week.
  • Consent must have been granted for the use of the data.
  • Data of a certain group of persons must be anonymized when the data is accessed.
  • Individual attributes of a datum (e.g., the IBAN) must be reduced to the last three characters.
  • Data usage must be logged.
  • Data must be deleted no later than 30 days after access.

Flexible
The open-source solution is based on Java and can be individually modified or extended through plugins.

Reliable
Data flows can be managed and controlled via central services, ensuring a high level of maintainability.

Adaptive
A Software Development Kit (SDK) enables easy integration into your systems.

Application scenarios of the solution

Data exchange between companies (B2B)

Collecting and analyzing data has enormous potential for many companies. However, they also see a major risk when exchanging sensitive data with business partners.

If, for example, a supplier wants to inform a company of an imminent delivery bottleneck, this information should not be published or disseminated in an uncontrolled manner. In such a case, MYDATA can ensure that the information is used only for a limited time and only be an authorized group of people.

Data release in banking (C2B2B)

The EU Payment Services Directive PSD2 regulates, among other things, participation in the payment industry by non-banks. External companies can gain access to transaction and customer data in order to offer bank customers added value.

PSD2 interfaces with MYDATA offer bank customers self-determination regarding the use of their data by third parties. Bank customers themselves determine which transaction data is released to external companies. For this purpose, the data can be filtered and masked with MYDATA. When creditworthiness is assessed, monthly income and expenditure are relevant, but the bank customer might not want to disclose all transaction details. Here, MYDATA creates more trust by strengthening the bank customer’s data sovereignty.

Digitalized rural areas (C2C)

Digitalization is also advancing rapidly in rural areas. The Digital Villages Platform of Fraunhofer IESE enables municipalities and local authorities to offer digital services for citizens. For example, there is a delivery service: Citizens can ask others to deliver goods from regional retailers to their doorstep. This request is always visible to the public.

MYDATA protects the privacy of citizens in this context. Further details about the delivery, such as the exact delivery address, are only displayed to the person making the delivery. If the recipient is not at home, a secret drop-off location can be specified. However, the person making the delivery can only see this on their smartphone when they are in the vicinity of the delivery location. MYDATA uses contextual information, such as the location of the person making the delivery, to control the use of the data.

Data loss prevention in one’s own company (B2x)

The – usually unintentional – disclosure of sensitive information is a constant threat for companies. This often happens through the carelessness of employees and not through hackers or malicious intent. An employee sends an email to external recipients and has inadvertently attached a confidential internal Office document.

The MYDATA Control Office Plugins offer the right solution to prevent scenarios like this. Documents in a wide range of formats (incl. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF) can be classified in accordance with their confidentiality classification and their usage can be controlled. When sending attachments, for example, MYDATA monitors that internal documents are only sent to external recipients after explicit approval. Confidential documents may only be sent in encrypted form. In this way, MYDATA prevents unwanted data losses.
